MCHD Asthma Camp Helps Children Breathe Easier Through Education and Fun
Martin County Hospital District recently welcomed local children and their families for a day of learning, laughter, and hands-on activities during Asthma Camp, an educational event designed to help young participants better understand and manage asthma while building confidence in caring for their respiratory health.
Children participated in educational activities, games, and hands-on demonstrations during MCHD’s Asthma Camp, learning valuable skills for managing asthma while enjoying a day of fun with friends.
Learning, Laughter, and Lasting Skills
MCHD Asthma Camp brought local children together for a day focused on education, confidence, and fun. Led by Megan Chandler, FNP-C, the camp provided young participants with practical tools to better understand asthma and manage their respiratory health in everyday life.
Through interactive lessons and hands-on demonstrations, campers learned how asthma affects the lungs, how to recognize common triggers, and the importance of following an asthma management plan. They also practiced using inhalers correctly and learned how peak flow meters and incentive spirometers can help monitor and improve breathing.
Learning Through Play
Education was woven into every activity throughout the day. Children participated in a trigger scavenger hunt, created crafts, played games, and even made slime while reinforcing important lessons about asthma prevention and healthy habits.
By combining learning with play, campers were able to build confidence in managing their asthma while creating memories and friendships that made the experience both meaningful and enjoyable.
A Community Effort
Asthma Camp was made possible through the support of several community partners who helped create a welcoming and engaging experience for every child.
Martin County Hospital District extends its sincere appreciation to Megan Chandler, FNP-C, the Martin County Library, the Methodist Church Playground, Stanton Drug, and everyone who volunteered their time and resources to make the event a success.
Their partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of children throughout Martin County.
Building Healthier Futures
Events like Asthma Camp demonstrate that healthcare extends beyond the walls of a clinic. By providing children and families with practical education in a fun, supportive environment, Martin County Hospital District is helping young patients develop the knowledge and confidence they need to live healthy, active lives.
We are grateful to every family who joined us and look forward to continuing programs that educate, empower, and strengthen the health of our community.
